Parents/Carers Focus Group

Parent and Carers Focus Group is a group that meets Monthly on a Friday at 10.00am. The purpose of the group is to improve relationships between home and school environments by encouraging an open opportunity for dialogue between parents, carers, senior leaders, multi-agency key worker and teachers . 

The group provides:

  • Parents and carers with the opportunity to meet other parents, including those with children and young people in different year groups with different diagnosis and needs.
  • Opportunities to build up a rapport by opening up a dialogue between school staff, external professions, parents and carers in a less formal setting and find out what happens at Epinay School.
  • Greater understanding of the school curriculum and different type of provisions and pathways in place e.g. LIFESKILLS, Phase 1, Phase 5 to parents and carers through planned workshops.
  • A social opportunity for parents and carers to discuss issues relating their child’s personal SEND experiences, whilst sharing support and personal strategies that they have implemented with their child or young person. 
  • Workshops from external partners to help develop parent and carer skills and knowledge to support diagnosis and need at home. 
  • Opportunities to support school in further developing the outstanding provision for student with SEND
  • An informal support group for parents and carers to socialise together.
  • Opportunities for parents and carers to visit the school and explore the specialist facilities .
  • Opportunities to discuss specific  problems that arise and helps SLT gather input for strategic ideas and decisions.
  • Local Authority opportunities to meet with parents and carers on a ranges of topics.
  • SENDIASS opportunities to offer impartial information, advice and support to parents and carers with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Opportunities to build trust with parents and carers who can be harder to reach
  • Informal situations where parents and carers can offer their views on how to challenge school policy changes or curriculum content changes.
